Self Government

Ts’uubaa-asatx First Nation is committed to self-determination, governing in a harmonious and balanced way that is inclusive of all members. Through strong governance structures, transparent decision-making, and ongoing collaboration, we ensure that our Nation remains resilient and future-focused.

  • We are dedicated to developing a governance model that reflects Ts’uubaa-asatx values and long-term vision by:
✔ Identifying a self-governance structure that supports our Nation’s needs and aspirations.
✔ Engaging in ongoing negotiations with all levels of government, including specific claims and reconciliation agreements.
✔ Maintaining open dialogue with the Town of Lake Cowichan and regional districts to foster partnerships that benefit our community.

  • To ensure positive outcomes for all members, we prioritize strong administrative systems, including:
✔ Strengthening financial oversight, ethics, and governance structures to manage key initiatives effectively.
✔ Expanding Human Resources capacity to meet the evolving needs of our Nation and its growing community.

  • Active community involvement and clear communication are at the core of our decision-making. We achieve this by:

✔ Hosting community update meetings and an annual planning & wellness retreat to keep members informed.
✔ Clarifying governance structures, including hereditary and elected leadership roles, to ensure a balanced approach.
✔ Ensuring our governance resources meet the highest professional standards, such as those established by the Financial Management Board.
✔ Implementing transparent protocols and processes to keep all members informed and engaged in Nation-building efforts.

By reinforcing our governance structures and maintaining open communication, Ts’uubaa-asatx continues to build a strong, self-sustaining future for generations to come.
