    Our governance system has been customized to meet the needs of our community and help guide us towards a successful and sustainable future by blending the best of the past with modern planning and management systems.

    Chief and Council have been entrusted by the Citizens of the Ts'uu-baa-satx Nation to carry out the business of the First Nation in a fair, responsible and ethical manner, and to respect the traditions and values of the First Nation. 

    The goals of the Ts'uu-baa-satx Nation include the preservation and promotion of traditional knowledge, language and culture, community and social development and wellness, land and resource development, economic investment and self-government.

    Ts’uubaa-asatx is resilient and deeply values its customs, traditions, song, dance, and heritage. By prioritizing cultural preservation and revitalization, we are ensuring that future generations can continue to embrace and celebrate our identity.

  • EMBRACING CULTURAL PRACTICES

    We are committed to creating opportunities for members to actively participate in cultural traditions, including:
    ✔ Hosting and maintaining cultural ceremonies and events woven into community gatherings.
    ✔ Partnering with knowledge keepers to strengthen resources and programs related to hunting, food preservation, language, and ceremonial protocols.
    ✔ Providing resources that support traditional practices, such as maps of hunting and fishing locations (including on the Salish Sea), cold storage for food fish, and space for food processing.

  • PRESERVING & SHARING CULTURAL TEACHINGS

    Passing down cultural knowledge and traditions is essential to the identity of Ts’uubaa-asatx. To ensure our heritage remains strong, we are:
    ✔ Educating members and neighboring communities on cultural revitalization through collaboration with local knowledge keepers.
    ✔ Strengthening pathways to share traditions with future generations through song and dance.
    ✔ Developing a language preservation program, including research and filmed documentation, to empower future generations with the ability to speak and understand their traditional language.
    ✔ Hosting regular celebrations at Ts’uubaa-asatx Square to honor our totem pole, culture, teachings, territory, and relationship within the broader Lake Cowichan community.
