ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

We strive to be a strong and healthy community.

Ts'uubaa-asatx reserve lands encompass an approximately 100 acre (39 hectare) rectangular parcel, with two roads cutting through it (Youbou Road and North Shore Road), along with an abandoned rail right-of-way which is now part of the Reserve. The Reserve is covered with second and third growth forest (mainly coniferous) and it slopes moderately to steeply southwards toward Lake Cowichan.

Through the community engagement process, community members identified the following priorities in the following areas:

  • Community facilities/ recreation

  • Housing

  • Infrastructure

  • Culture

  • Community Programs and Services

  • Economic Development

Our strategies to achieve these targets are:

  • Diverse economic base with a low-risk business profile.

  • Maximize benefits and diversify existing businesses.

  • Develop new businesses that create employment, offer maximum ROI (return on investment) and require minimal administrative cost.

  • Achieve new growth through strategic alliances with businesses that support Saulteau values and objectives.

  • Ensure and respect green development principles are adhered to in existing and new business ventures.
